AUGUST 29, 2001 --
Khaider
Gedua Kna'an, a 26 year-old Palestinian man, is shot to death as he is driving to work. His father and brother are passengers and are also wounded in the drive-by shooting.
An Israeli terror group later takes responsibility, with an anonymous caller claiming the attack is revenge for the death of an Israeli settler a year before. Police say that the shooter probably chose Kna'an's car because it had Palestinian license plates. Police open an investigation, but confess they have no leads. Palestinians tell the Jerusalem Post that they tried to pursue the killer, but were stopped by soldiers. The attack occurs on a road north of Jerusalem near the Israeli colony of Anatot. It is the fourth time this summer that Jewish terrorists are suspected of randomly killing Palestinians on West Bank roads. Among the five earlier murder victims is a six- month-old baby. Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Israeli officials and civic groups have denounced all the killings. No arrests have been made.
